Why Organic Coconut Oil?

Many people still assume that saturated fats are unhealthful, and that the healthiest diet is a low fat diet that contains only polyunsaturated fats. Scientific research now refutes this idea. More and more are now including in their diet organic coconut oil, which is high in saturated fat and lauric acid.

Even fast foods and junk foods largely contain polyunsaturated fats. The problem with polyunsaturated fats is that they decrease thyroid gland activity. It is the thyroid gland that is the key to good health. Saturated fats, such as virgin coconut oil, actually increase thyroid gland activity. This increased activity causes the breakdown of blood cholesterol, fights ageing, and boosts the immune system.

It is no accident that people in Southeast Asia and Polynesia who have traditionally relied on coconut oil in their diet have an extremely low death rate from cancer and heart disease. These people have lean bodies, despite having a very high fat diet. Albert Schweitzer, during his time in Africa, said that it was many years before he saw a single case of cancer. He believed that the appearance of cancer was caused by the introduction of the European diet to the Africans.

Coconut oil is also high in lauric acid. It is the lauric acid in breast milk that protects a newborn infant from viral, bacterial and protozoal attack. Lauric acid also helps an infant remain clear of yeast and fungal infection. Thus, it is not surprising that the coconut palm is often called ‘The Tree of Life’. Coconut oil is an invaluable source of medicine for Polynesian people.

Finally, organic coconut oil is a great source of vitamin E. This is why many moisturizers include coconut oil. Coconut oil is often used as hair oil. The anti-aging properties and the high vitamin E content of coconut oil have made coconut oil a popular ingredient for beauty products.
