Why Magnesium?

Magnesium is essential for vibrant health and cannot be manufactured by the body, leaving us responsible for providing enough. Almost all of us need to increase magnesium intake, because it is required by more than 300 chemical reactions, including proper muscle and nerve function. Even a mild deficiency of magnesium has noticeable health effects.

Who Is Deficient?

Research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology in 2002 shows that when the diets of 2,566 children ages 11-19 were studied, fewer than 14 percent of boys and 12 percent of girls had adequate magnesium intake. This is particularly worrying when one considers that, deficiencies are usually amplified as we get older. This means we are all at risk of having magnesium deficiency, and it is likely that at least 80% of us are deficient. In 1995, a survey and found that 72% of adult Americans consume less than the Recommended Daily Allowance of magnesium.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of increasing your magnesium intake can be rapid in the case of muscle spasms and cramps and other types of pain. People suddenly find they are less irritable, have fewer aches and pains and/or their energy levels have shot up. This is the power of giving your body what has been dubbed the “master mineral.”
