Mineral Deficiencies and Athletes

Minerals are critical to our entire physiology: teeth, bones, blood, muscle, tissue, nerve cells. They are integral to transporting oxygen to the blood, maintaining pressure of body fluids to pass through the body. For example, potassium, calcium and sodium help maintain the rhythmic beating of the heart.

Many athletes, who often work out on a daily basis, are not consuming sufficient minerals to replace mineral loss. Athletes frequently depend on sports drinks, which are little more than water, sugar, salt, food colouring and potassium. Athletes drink shakes of sparse nutritional value, augmented with rice or whey protein.

It’s been estimated that athletes sweat more in five years than a couch potato would in seventy-five years. If essential minerals aren’t consistently being put back in the body, the body will be at risk.

Schindele’s Austrian Powdered Minerals are available.
